REVITALIZATION PROJECT HERBÁRIO BARBOSA RODRIGUES

CULTURE - ART - SCIENCE - LEISURE

Founded in 1942, Herbário Barbosa Rodrigues is a world reference in botany, housing a collection of 70 thousand dried specimens of plants of the most varied species.

The collection is the result of a true scientific “adventure” carried out by the botanist Raulino Reitz who, for 14 years, commanded more than a thousand excursions covering 954,000 km in the state of Santa Catarina mapping all its vegetation.

This year the HBR garden will undergo a revitalization process, transforming the institute into the first cultural HUB in Itajaí, inspired by the best museums and cultural centers in London and New York.

The revitalization project was created by art directors Gutje Woortmann and Fernanda Menegatti  who are also responsible for the cultural curation of the space.

The duo that travels the world with an eye on trends and the most innovative ways of presenting content, created outdoor and indoor exhibitions (that will be held throughout the year) transforming HBR into a reference in culture and innovation alligned  with the cities development.

According to Gutje "the project was created to bring an unprecedented proposal to the city: a place that brings together culture, art, science and leisure, providing a totally different experience to the community". Itajaí will win a multicultural space with living areas packed with art work, a café with panoramic views, a sensory installation, a space for workshops and courses, an organic fair, a flower shop, a kids space and a concept restaurant.

In addition to fostering culture, the remodeling of the space has made Herbário Barbosa Rodrigues a more welcoming, safe and stimulating environment so that academics and students of all levels can meet and share information.

ECOWEEK

The cultural program of this new journey will begin with the realization of HBR ECOWEEK, an event in the “walk through” format, a concept developed by the curators for the “new normal” where the public gradually enters the event and follows a course practically non-stop, ensuring social distancing.

HBR ECOWEEK will present an ecotech exhibition (products with green technologies and renewable energies), an “HBR time line” (telling the story of the Herbarium), multimedia and sensory installations, instagram spaces, game space, lectures and pocket shows with artists from Santa Catherine.

Lectures, games and pocket shows will have limited access.
